How is God working here?

Last night I arrived in Houston with final preparations to head into Guatemala.  This morning I went to the airport and met the rest of my team from The Pointe Church.20170121_123355  We’re all very excited about serving the people in Guatemala.  If all goes well, we’ll be doing some roofing, painting, working with children, and contributing to a house build.  It will be great to see how the pre-school has progressed.  We’ll be staying in one of the rooms there.

I was surprised to see so many mission groups on our flight.  There are several mission’s organization traveling with us.  One is Living Waters.  They are going to build wells in some of the villages in West of Guatemala City.  Another group is going to construct wood stoves and venting for people’s homes.

Our group is working directly with Christian Horizons Global (CH Global).  CH Global works in Guatemala City and several rural communities, El Zapatillo being one of them, to help improve the quality of life for people with disabilities and those who have been impacted by extreme poverty.

Guatemala has over 15 million and 48% of the population is under the age of 18. Nearly half of the children under age 5 are chronically malnourished pushing Guatemala into the 4th highest malnutrition rate in the world.  Guatemala spends approximate 3.2% of their GDP on education and has a literacy rate of around 80% for males and 69% for females.

As I have been contemplating the trip, one single question is on my heart.  “How is God working here?”

I’ll be posting blogs over the next few weeks outlining my trip and seeking to answer this question.
